Thomas Stellmach presented “Digitisation, space and society” in ‘Smart City Berlin meets Smart Country Brandenburg’
Exhibition ‘Unfinished Metropolis. 100 years of urban development for (Greater) Berlin’ opening night
A 100 years ago today Berlin became Greater Berlin and a giant city emerged increasing its territory from 66 to 878 square kilometres, and increasing its population form 1.9 to approximately 3.9 million inhabitants.
TSPA and our partners Fabulism had the pleasure attend the opening event of the anniversary exhibition “Unfinished Metropolis: 100 Years of Urban Development for Greater Berlin” as one of the 5 awarded proposals which reflected on the city’s possibilities for 2070.
The exhibition, focused on the way living, working, traffic, leisure and recreation have unfolded through history, presents new ideas on the exemplary locations for future development.
You can now visit and see our proposal at Kronprinzenpalais, Unter den Linden 3, 10117 Berlin from October1st and until 3rd of January.

With an aim to discuss the core composition of TSPA, our team went on a small trip to Coconat space a “workation retreat”. In this co-working space we got to workshop our ideas on values, goals, vision, structure and organisation for the future of our company.
This was a very valuable opportunity for us to get to know each other as a team and decide where to direct our energies in the future. With many recent additions we feel optimistic and happy to be part of a group filled with talented, smart and friendly people.
Here are some snapshots of how it went:
We chose a location in the countryside close to Berlin.
Last September 10 representatives of the Tianjin Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute from China visited TSPA with the aim to get a deeper insight of the work and processes in a city planning office.
Today, on October 7 TSPA and Berim discuss the Eco-City Wonosobo concept with the city team on Central Java. The ambition is to integrate a green-blue network, waste-to-energy-systems, a better and more walkable street network, improved water management with rain gardens plus a sustainable economy district. Way to go!
Our colleague Filippo Imberti is heading to Moscow to participate as a speaker at the business forum and exhibition City: The Details (Город:Детали) and jury member at the relevant competition.
The forum is organised by the Government of Moscow City and will become part of the government program My District.
Filippo will present TSPA approach and case studies on urban spaces transformations.

On the 24th of January 2019, our dear colleague and Premio Berlino 2018 winner Valentina Travaglino shared her story of working with TSPA for the last 4 months. Presented at the Italian Institute of Culture (Istituto Italiano di Cultura Berlino), she shared her experiences and presented a status update of her work within TSPA.
Premio Berlino has been awarded for the second time to young architects for the excellence in their work. The program allows two Italian architects, who excel in the reuse and urban regeneration of urban spaces, to spend 6 months working within an architecture or urban planning office in Berlin. This program is funded by the Italian Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs.
TSPA feels honored that Valentina chose our office to spend 6 months working and collaborating on certain projects, such as the Impulse.Berlin project and the currently developing project of the three cities (Alto Molúcuè, Gurué and Milange) in Mozambique. During her presentation she shared her time approach and findings on what kind of challenges Mozambique faces and will face in the future and the research she has carried out. The presentations at the Italian Institute were free to the public and we were happy to see that the evening was well attended.
Want to follow Valentina Travaglino and her work at TSPA? Premio Berlino has set a final presentation of the six month period in March 2019, which is also accessible to the public. The final presentation of Valentina’s time at TSPA will be held at the Aedes Metropolitan Laboratory, so keep an eye on this website for when the actual date has been set!
For the last 8 years, Moscow Urban Forum was gathering experts from various fields and countries to discuss the most prominent issues our cities are facing. Questions, such as what is a smart city, how cities can become even more inclusive and resilient, or how do we cope with digitalization in planning and everyday life?
In the summer of 2018, TSPA was invited to support MUF in the topic about “MEGAPOLIS OF THE FUTURE. NEW SPACE FOR LIVING”. We were honored to be the main partners of the event, among internationally recognized organizations like OECD and PWC.
Additionally to the partner role, TSPA participated in the round table discussion about successful urban and real estate development practices.

TSPA’s workshop at Kiev’s CANactions School for Urban Studies in Kiev reimagined a former industrial area as a creative cluster. The motto of the workshop — ‘from research to proposal’ — turned out to be very real: The site’s owner was sufficiently impressed by the results that he committed to continue the cooperation and to jointly develop the student’s ideas further to turn them into reality.
Read more about the workshop in the press here [Ukrainian: Пространство для творчества и развития должно быть комфортным] and here [Ukrainian: В Киеве состоялся совместный воркшоп школы CANactions и Арт-завода Платформа].
Many thanks to the Goethe Institute for support and to the CANactions team for organising, and especially to the participants for their great work!
