How can local governments successfully integrate risk management into urban planning? This question is at the heart of the Risk-Informed Master Planning (RIMP) pilot training sessions in Kerala.
As part of the ongoing Risk-Informed Planning project located in Kerala state, the last project work package is dedicated to capacity developement. TSPA, in collaboration with project partners, developed training modules aimed at strengthening local capacity in disaster resilience and urban planning. These sessions brought together local elected representatives, municipal engineers, and planning officials from across the state to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for risk-informed planning. Our partners, Gitpac International and CRISIL, played a key role in implementing the sessions at the Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) training center.
The training sessions focused on strategic urban planning, risk analysis, and disaster risk reduction, introducing practical tools for integrating risk-informed decision-making into urban master planning. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises, case studies, and scenario-based simulations designed to enhance their ability to apply the revised Risk-Informed Master Planning (RIMP) guidelines effectively. By fostering collaboration between policymakers and technical experts, these trainings are a crucial step toward resilient and sustainable urban development.
We are extending our gratitude to our partners, for their on-site expertise and support in making this happen as well as KILA for offering their training facilities for the pilot sessions.
