Approaches to Affordable Housing

Release of explanatory videos as part of the research initiative. Part I

What strategies or incentives can policymakers use to encourage investment in affordable housing development?

This question is at the heart of the German-American Cities network, a research initiative led by the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs, and Spatial Development (BBSR). As a research partner to the BBSR, we’ve worked together to create a series of explanatory videos that explore real-world planning instruments for higher density, mixed-use and affordable housing from the six participating cities.

In the first video, Approaches to Affordable Housing, we tackle a common pressing challenge in the German and U.S. cities. Munich and Atlanta share their best practices, ranging from design to various policy programs that would increase the access to long term, sustainable, and equitable housing.
