In urban planning, complex ideas often get lost in technical jargon, making it difficult for decision-makers and communities to engage meaningfully. Clear communication is essential for making informed decisions - whether by planners, policymakers, or the public.

To bridge this gap, we worked on a series of explanatory videos as part of a research project on density and mixed-use development in German and U.S. cities led by the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs, and Spatial Development (BBSR).

The videos explore real-world planning instruments for higher density, mixed-use development, and affordable housing in six German and U.S. cities. They summarise three years of research, presenting key findings in an engaging and accessible format.

The series breaks down planning challenges, showcases innovative strategies, and highlights Living Labs as real-world examples. By visually simplifying complex topics, these videos aim to foster dialogue, share knowledge, and inspire action in urban planning.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll share insights from the series, covering:
▪️ Approaches to Affordable Housing
▪️ Urban Quality and Density
▪️ The Role of Integrated Urban Development
▪️ Implementing Projects Together
