Thomas was invited to attend the UN-Habitat Expert Group Meeting titled "Planning City Extensions - Public and Private Space for Expanding Cities" which took place in Barcelona from 16-18 September 2013. The event was organized by the Barcelona City Council and UN-Habitat, bringing together international experts from various fields to discuss proactive, negotiated, and guided city extensions in areas experiencing significant urban growth.
