Approaches to Urban Quality and Density

Release of explanatory videos as part of the research initiative. Part II

How can cities promote dense, mixed-use urban development to enhance liveability and overall quality of life?

This question is at the heart of the German-American Cities network, a research initiative led by the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs, and Spatial Development (BBSR). As a research partner, with Stefan Heinig, to the BBSR, we’ve worked together to create a series of explanatory videos that explore real-world planning instruments for higher density, mixed-use and affordable housing from the six participating cities.

The second video from explanatory videos series developed for the Density and Mix-Use project, Frankfurt and Atlanta’s Living Labs are exploring this challenge. In this video, both cities showcase their strategies for developing dense, mixed, and functional mixed urban models. By prioritising mixed-use development and walkable neighbourhoods, they aim to reduce car dependency and ensure equitable access to essential services and amenities.
