The municipal planning department of Berlin, the Senatsverwaltung für Stadtentwicklung und Umwelt, has commissioned a consortium led by TSPA to develop a comprehensive plan for Berlin's provision of public restrooms.
The project is much more intriguing than we initially understood: How would a restroom next to Berghain look compared to one at the Brandenburg Gate? What is the relationship between restrooms and public advertising in this city? What new ecological approaches are emerging, and what do restrooms have to do with tourism, safety, culture, and public space in general?
