The Berliner Wirtschaftsgespräche, the interdisciplinary network Architects for Architects (AfA) and the Architekten- und Ingenieur-Verein zu Berlin (AIV) jointly invite you to the third event in the discussion series StadtWertSchätzen: Positions on Urban Development - Architecture - Urban Design in Berlin 2016-2021

On Wednesday, 12 October 2016, at 19:00, we will discuss the question ‘What is urban development of the 21st century (in Berlin)?’. In addition to Thomas as a representative of urban planners, Prof Dr Harald Bodenschatz, Annelie Schoen and Uwe Rilke will represent the academic, institutional and investment perspectives.

Berlin is growing.

For years, demand for affordable housing has exceeded supply. The same applies to commercial space and social infrastructure.International immigration is exacerbating this situation.

This is leading to an ever-increasing dynamic of change - in the neighbourhoods and in urban society. What challenges does the ‘growing city’ pose for urban development, architecture and urban planning? How can experimental paths be taken? And what international role models can Berlin learn from?

In Part III of our event series, the challenges will be discussed under the following questions: What does urban development of the 21st century mean for Berlin? What urban development concepts does Berlin need? Does urban development in Berlin necessarily always mean a block structure? How can exemplary new urban development concepts be developed? Which international approaches are also trend-setting for Berlin? What procurement procedures are needed for this? And what (new) forms of participation are necessary?
