Aedes and Buro Happold have designed a program that explores how we can prepare our cities, regions, and buildings for a future that is only partially predictable. In the Lab Talk series "Futureproof. Engineering Resilient Cities," we will discuss concepts and challenges for resilient, future-ready cities, regions, and buildings over three evenings with experts from academia, architecture, planning, real estate, and politics.
Lab Talk 1: Futureproof in XL
A collaborative program by the Aedes Metropolitan Laboratory and Buro Happold, consisting of three Lab Talks, a workshop, and an anniversary event, 2024–25.
Date: January 23, 2025, at 6:30 PM
Workshop: June 5, 2025
Location: Aedes Metropolitan Laboratory, Christinenstr. 18–19, 10119 Berlin
Thomas will support the event series and participate in the first Lab Talk as peer. Focusing on cities and regions, the first event in the series addresses the themes of sustainability and resilience, incorporating exemplary projects and exchange processes between politics, business, society, academia, and planning, as well as among the planning disciplines. What do unpredictability and prevention mean in relation to the interconnections, networks, and interactions between regions, cities, and districts? What role can new concepts for mobility and future-oriented spatial planning play in this context? How can transformation in the sectors mentioned above be successfully achieved?
